New Bedford – Phyllis B. Raphael, age 94, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Ernest Raphael.
Phyllis was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Sidney Maxcy and Marie Anne (Langlois) Maxcy. She had worked at Fernandes Supermarket in the meat department for many years.
Phyllis was a South End resident her entire life. She and Dad had 58 wonderful years together before he passed away. She loved to share fond memories of Acushnet Park, frequenting the Orpheum and other theaters in the city, skating at the Poor Farm, lawn bowling at Hazelwood Park, duckpin bowling at the Playdium and road trips with Dad to Maine just for lobster rolls.
She loved going to agility trials to see her beloved dog Prince and granddog Journey run while enjoying the company of everyone there. She also enjoyed staying connected with friends and family from all over on Facebook. Favorite pastimes were knitting, word puzzles, reading and stained glass work.
Phyllis was so proud of all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments and loved spending time with them.
Phyllis’ family would like to extend a special thank you to her neighbors Carlos, Celeste, Russell, Annette and Rose for always being there for her. You were her extended family.
Phyllis is survived by her 5 children, Janice Raphael, Nancy Santos and her husband Gilbert, David Raphael and his wife Gina Lucas, Michael Raphael and his girlfriend Kristin Bruno and Phyllis Lima and her husband Fred; 5 grandchildren, Christopher Santos, Jason Raphael, Jennifer Ahola, Bradford Raphael and Joshua Lima; 5 great-grandchildren, Aaron Santos, Braeden Santos, Cameron Santos, Elizabeth Santos and Abigail Lima; adopted daughter, Laura Gregoire; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
Phyllis’s visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 5:00 P.M – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place Tuesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
