Maria (Cabral) Mateus

Boston – Maria (Cabral) Mateus, age 82, of New Bedford passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Tufts Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Mateus.

Born in Mosteiros, Portugal she was the daughter of the late Luis Cabral and Maria daConceicao (Alves) Cabral. Maria had been a seamstress for several local clothing manufacturers for many years.

Maria is survived by her children, Clivia Pereira, Jose Mateus and his wife Del and Roy Mateus and his wife Nat; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kevin, Maegan, Adam, Benjamin, Alexis, Victoria and Vanessa; great-grandson, Nathaniel; sisters, Fernanda Jacob, Gilda Vasconcelos, Alda Medeiros and Bibiana Cabral; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her late siblings, Manuel Cabral, Jose Cabral, Aniceto Cabral, Almarinda Alexander and Teresa Almeida.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, March 19, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will take place Saturday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 7:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.
