Leonel V. Pereira

New Bedford – Leonel V. Pereira, age 79, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Raposo) Pereira and the late Maria (Silva) Pereira.

Leonel was born in Ginetes, St. Michael, Azores to the late Manuel Pereira and Isabel (Verissimo) Pereira. He had worked as a boiler tech for Rodney Metals for many years. He loved all sports, especially, Benfica. He especially loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed.

Leonel is survived by his wife, Maria Pereira; 3 children, Paul Pereira, Diane Pereira and Philip Pereira; 2 step-children, Cathy Bentley and Scott Vieira; 6 grandchildren, Alexandria, Julianne, Elijah, Nicholas, Nolan and Emma; 1 great-granddaughter, Cambree; 2 sisters, Idalina Medeiros and Eduarda Aguiar; as well as several nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Jose Pereira.

Leonel’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home from 7:30 A.M. – 8:30 A.M. and followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will be private.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.
