Judy Ernst (Hilliard) Kusinitz

Dartmouth - Judy Ernst (Hilliard) Kusinitz passed away peacefully on the morning of 12 January 2021. Judy was born in 1929, in St. Louis, MO. Judy lived in numerous southern states with her parents Martha and Ellis Ernst. The family eventually moved to Greenwich, CT where she met and married Edward (Ted) Hilliard Jr. in 1948. Judy was a longtime resident of Portsmouth, RI and also lived in St. Pete’s Beach, FL. Her second marriage in 1990 to Samuel Kusinitz of Newport ended with his death later that year.

Judy was a librarian at the Redwood Library in Newport, a member of Channing Memorial Church, and enjoyed a long affiliation with the Newport Art Association. An accomplished artist in pen and ink, calligraphy, watercolors, oils and ceramics, she particularly enjoyed painting landscapes of Aquidneck Island and locations near St. Pete’s Beach. Judy is survived by their son Edward (Ted) Hilliard III (Margaret Meade), of Florence, SC and Nancy Hilliard (Tom Molinski) of Tiverton, RI, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. The family wishes to thank all of her care givers at the Cottages at Dartmouth Village in North Dartmouth, MA for their kindness, support, and devotion.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Potter League, or better yet adopt a pet. No memorial service is planned.
