New Bedford – David “Dave” Novo, age 59, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Cathy A. DeMoranville, to whom he had shared 26 wonderful years of marriage.
David was born in New Bedford, MA to Eugenia (Souza) Novo and the late Victor Novo. He lived in New Bedford all of his life and had been a graduate of the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School Class of 1981. He later went on to work as a custodian for the New Bedford School Department for 38 years.
Dave had been involved with the Whaling City Youth Baseball league for 28 years. He first served in the league as the Commissioner of the Instruction League and then as a manager for the past 15 years. He truly believed that each and every one of his players were important and believed in “team” concept. Dave had also been a lifetime member of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament.
Dave is survived by his mother, Eugenia Novo; his loving wife Cathy A. Novo; his 4 sons, Joshua Hathaway and his wife Jeanie, Korey, Trevor and Nicholas Novo, all of New Bedford; his daughter, Hannah Novo of New Bedford; his brother, Victor Novo of Fairhaven; his sister, Gail Coble of Marion; 3 grandchildren, Makenzy and Nathyn L’Heureux and Leland Hathaway, all of New Bedford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dave’s visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. His funeral will take place on Monday morning, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name of Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 A.M. All attending the funeral service are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly asked to be made in Dave's memory to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Whaling City Youth Baseball League, P.O. Box 61036, New Bedford, MA 02746.
All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.
