New Bedford – Jose Carreiro, age 85, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday December 24, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Maria DaLuz (Pimentel) Carreiro and the son of the late Julietta (Garcia) and Manuel Carreiro.

He was born in St. Michael, Azores and moved to this country in 1967, where he worked as a weaver for Berkshire Hathaway. Jose also worked as a landscaper and a farmer.

His survivors include, his 4 children, Luisa Surprenant and her husband David, Susan Carreiro, Nancy Conroy and her husband Keith and Steven Carreiro; 7 grandchildren, Alyssa Pettegrow, Erin Schwarz, Zachary Surprenant, Jacob Surprenant, Mitchell Surprenant, Hailey Conroy and Rebecca Conroy; great grandchildren, Alex, Abe, Emery and Theo. He is also survived by his sister, Maria Viera; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jose’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening, December 29, 2020 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. His funeral will be Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be private.

Please be aware that all attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home. Attendance at the church will also be limited in order to meet their mandated capacity restrictions as well. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this time.
