Maria C. (Moreira) Freitas

New Bedford - Maria Cristina “Tina” Freitas, 72 of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020 surrounded by her family. Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, she was the beloved wife of Mauricio Freitas with whom she shared 50 years of marriage and the daughter of the late Jose Moreira and Maria do Carmo (Vieira) Moreira.

Tina was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She worked in housekeeping at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home prior to her retirement. Tina was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved to cook and would make amazing meals for her family that we enjoyed eating. She was always joyful, willing to help and loved to laugh. Most of all, she loved being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Mauricio Freitas; daughter, Patricia Freitas and son-in-law, Greg Cardoza; grandchildren, Sean and Audrey Cardoza; sister, Ludgarda DeMello; nephew, Robert Vieira and niece, Elizabeth Souza. She was predeceased by her late brothers; Jaime Moreira and Walter Moreira.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire team at Beacon Hospice for their excellent care, compassion and support provided for Tina and her family.

*IMPORTANT* RESCHEDULED DAY due to snow forecast, SAME TIMES and PLACES. Her visiting hours and funeral service will be held on MONDAY morning, December 21, 2020. Visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow at Rural Cemetery.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering at all times, to social distance 6 feet and to please refrain from any close physical contact. Attendance in the funeral home will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions and could result with a wait time outside of the funeral home.
