Aida Maldonado

New Bedford – Aida Rosa Maldonado, age 90, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She had been the beloved wife of the late Crisanto Velez and the late Robert Ostrander.

Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico she was the beloved daughter of the late Wenceslao Maldonado and Maria Soto. She had been a loving homemaker to her family throughout the years. She had also been a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on County Street in New Bedford, MA.

Aida, who had been affectionately known as both, Mita and Yaya had been a loving and devoted mother. She was a happy soul and her smile always brightened the room. Aida was loved by all who knew her and by everyone whose hearts that she touched.

She enjoyed playing the game of Dominoes and cards. She had a passion for bright colors, plants and flowers, especially Orchids. She had also attended the La Bella Vida Adult Day in Dartmouth.

Aida is survived by her children, Reyes Velez, Violeta Velez, Carmen Otero, Freddie Velez, Cristobal Velez and Evelyn Velez Rosa; 11 step-children; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and 8 siblings.

She had also been the mother of the late Jose Velez.

Aida’s funeral services will be private.
