Marie A. (Fortes) Frates

Rhode Island – Marie A. (Fortes) Frates, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 after a brief illness. Born in New Bedford, MA she was the daughter of the late Julio and Hilda (Gibau) Fortes.

She had been employed by Building 19 for over 25 years prior to their closing. Marie had cherished her 7 grandchildren. She was so proud of each and every one of them and would brag about them every chance she could.
Marie was a passionate cook. Her Munchupa was a family favorite and was always requested at every family gathering. Aside from her love of cooking, Marie loved watching reality TV, keeping up with current news, talking on the phone with loved ones and enjoying spending time with friends at her neighborhood coffee shop.

Marie was also known for her quick wit, spitfire personality, her kind and compassionate spirit, but mostly her love for the Lord, her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Richard Frates and his wife Tracey, her daughter Raven Mello (Frates) and her husband Kyle. Loving Nana to Korey, Mark, Avery, Mason, Maggie, Noella and Kalel.

Sister of Julie, Isabel, Elizabeth, Alice, Sherry and her late brother and sister Allen and Sandra. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

A Memorial Service for Marie will take place on Sunday October 4th from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

All attendees for visiting hours and funeral services are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering and to practice social distancing of 6 feet. Attendance will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions.
