New Bedford – Franklin DeSousa, age 86, of Dartmouth passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Germina (Sousa) DeSousa.
Born in Agua de Pau, São Miguel, Azores he was the beloved son of Maria Amelia (Furtado) DeSousa and the late Jose DeSousa. While living in Portugal, Franklin had served in the Portuguese Army. When he moved to the United States, he had worked for Carol Cable and later he had worked as a landscaper for Morgado Landscaping Company.
Franklin is survived by his mother, Maria Amelia DeSousa; his son, Joseph Sousa and his wife Maria; his daughters, Lucy Stellato and her husband Jim, Diane Niehoff and her husband Kirk and Debra Davidson and her husband Andrew; 5 grandchildren, Katherine, Andrew, Sarah, Alec and Caroline; his sisters, Maria Pereira and her husband Manuel and Connie Baganha and her husband Luis; his sister-in-law, Maria Ana DeSousa; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Amancio DeSousa.
Franklin’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening, August 12th 2020 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. His funeral will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering and to practice social distancing of 6 feet. Attendance will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions.
