Joao R. Vertentes

New Bedford – Joao R. Vertentes, age 82, of New Bedford passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria Alodia (De Melo) Vertentes.

Born in Ponta Garca, St. Michael, Azores, he was the beloved son of the late Joao Jose Vertentes, Jr. and Maria Do Carmo (Raposo) Vertentes. Joao had been a machine operator for Chamberlain Manufacturing for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria; his 3 sons and daughters-in-law, John And Zelia Vertentes, Joe and Paula Vertentes and Barry and Liseta Vertentes; 7 grandchildren, Derrick, Kyle, Ashley, Jared, Meghan, Joshua and Hailey; 6 great-grandchildren, Ayden, Tyson, Keegan, Maddox, Rhea and Cameron; his sister, Angelina Vertentes; as well as many other extended family members. He was also the brother of the late Maria Joana Vertentes.

Joao’s funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June16, 2020 beginning with visiting hours at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to take place at 10:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.

All attendees are required by current mandated restrictions to wear a face covering and to practice social distancing of 6 feet. Attendance will be limited in order to meet the mandated capacity restrictions.
