New Bedford - Gary D. Barboza passed away peacefully with his two loving daughters by his side on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. He was 55 years young.

He was the beloved son of Janice F. Barboza of Dartmouth and the late Ronald Barboza. Gary was born on May 10, 1965. He graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1984 and later attended BCC and Plymouth State University.

Gary was a proud Dartmouth resident. He was an avid athlete. He was a player, a true teammate, a coach and a fan of all sports. Growing up he played basketball, Midget football and Little League baseball but playing football for the Dartmouth High School Indians was his passion. He played all four years on an undefeated team and his final year, they won the Super Bowl Championship of 1983. If you knew Gary back then, you knew him as #78 "Sugar Bear".

Gary leaves behind wonderful memories and a strong family. His daughters were his anchor and he was their best friend. He enjoyed cooking, watching sports, going to the beach and spending time with his friends who are family. Gary's vibrant smile, contagious laugh and loyalty made him unique.

In addition to his daughters Nicole and Carly Barboza of Dartmouth and their loving mother June Kendall, he is survived by his brother Ronald (Scott) Barboza and his wife Lisa of Dartmouth, he had dozens of nieces and nephews,between his Barboza and Sousa families, whom he adored.
