New Bedford - Luis Alberto Dias Botelho, 74 of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020 peacefully in his home. He was the loving husband of wife, Lucia Miguel-Botelho, to whom he had been married to for 41 years and father to his 2 daughters, Monique M. Botelho and Natasha M. Botelho.
Born May 14, 1946 in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel he was the son of the late Jose Jacinto Botelho (of Capelas) and Maria Isabel Damiao Dias Botelho (of Vila Franco do Campo) and father of his late son, Miguel Luis Araujo Botelho (of Ponta Delgada).
Luis was employed as an Administrator at the Consulate of Portugal, New Bedford for 25 years. Luis loved his family, traveling and would frequently spend time in Sao Miguel where his brothers, nieces, nephews and friends resided.
He had a passion for cooking and was known for his authentic and often eclectic recipes he picked up on his many travels along with his expertise in Portuguese cuisine. Sitting down with family for dinner was sacred for him. He was known for his sarcastic comments and infectious smile.
In addition to his wife and daughters, he is also survived by his three brothers, Jose Goncalo Dias Botelho (of Capelas), Aires Manuel Dias Botelho (of Ponta Delgada) and wife Ines, and Nicolau Maria Dias Botelho (of Lagoa) and his wife Antonieta; mother-in-law, Alda M. Miguel; brother-in-law’s, Joao Cezar Miguel and Manuel Pacheco Botelho; as well as several godchildren, nieces and nephews.
Luis’s funeral services will be private for the immediate family due to the recent mandated restrictions in regards to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
