George W. Ponte, Jr.

New Bedford – George W. Ponte, Jr., age 79, of Dartmouth passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Born in Dartmouth, MA he was the beloved son of the late George W. Ponte, Sr. and Mary (Rocha) Ponte.

He had worked as a machinist for Acushnet Company Rubber Division for many years.

He is survived by his children, Laurie Ponte of New Bedford, George W. Ponte III and Kathy Kackley of Charleston, South Carolina, Tammy Demaris and her husband Paul of Spring Hill, FL, Scott A. Ponte and his wife Robyn Marshall-Ponte of New Bedford and Kaylin Horvath and her husband James of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jared, Garrett, Brittany, Cameron, Rachel, Devin, Brooke, Eric Jr., Brianne, Logan and Carlie; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kamden, Mackenzie, Maliyah, Atlis, Lucas, Leonidas, Alias, Emersyn, Mariah and Penelope Jo; brother, Robert Ponte of Dartmouth; sister, Barbara Medeiros of Dartmouth; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the former husband of the late Catherine (Bettencourt) Ponte.

George’s funeral services will be private due to the recent Covid-19 mandated restrictions in regards to the Covid-19 Pandemic. A Memorial Service for George will be held at a later date. Please check back on our website for the update.
