New Bedford – Joseph M. Raposa, 79, entered into eternal rest with the Lord when he lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of 58 years to Joyce A. (Florio) Raposa.

Joseph was born in Santa Cruz, Lagoa, Azores, Portugal, to the late Joao P. Raposo and the late Maria da Gloria (Medeiros) Raposa. He worked as a machinist for Morse Cutting Tools, and served as vice president for the Morse Cutting Tools Union for many years before taking over as president.

Joseph was the recipient of St. Mary's annual Marian Medal in 2013, for his unwavering dedication and service to the Church. He was an active member of the Men of the Sacred Heart, the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, and the Mount Carmel Seniors. He played soccer for the Portuguese Sports Club, where he was also a member.

Joseph was an avid woodworker, who enjoyed watching Bob Ross and cooking programs. He was also a passionate Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons, Stephen and his companion Lisa Perry, Gary and his wife Kimberley, and Mark and his wife Theresa; four grandchildren: Kirstyn, Evan, Madison, and Riley; two sisters, Teresa Silva and Mary Correia; a brother, John; former daughter-in-law, Kimberly Raposa; as well as several nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was brother to the late Manuel Raposo.

Flowers are welcome, however, donations made to the Hope Lodge in Boston (associated with the American Cancer Society), or to Community Nurse Home Care in Fairhaven would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph’s visiting hours with his cremains will be on Saturday, February 1st, from 8:00 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass at St. Marys Church in Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M.. Burial will take place at Rural Cemetery.
