Fairhaven - Sandra Ann Tavares age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5th 2019 at her home in Fairhaven. In her sun filled room, the Angels came to escort our beautiful Mother home. Surrounded and held by her adoring son Michael, her daughter Christine Blais, her granddaughter Allison Barboza, her sister Cheryl Mathews and sister-in-law Sharan Lawrence we let her pass into the light. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her entire life was devoted to the wellbeing and safety of her family, her primary concern during her stay on earth. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Kenneth Roger Tavares, her step son Randall Tavares and her parents Manuel and Helen Lawrence. A lifelong resident of the area she was a strong and formidable women who never took no for an answer when it came to her family. Prior to her retirement in early 2000 she was an Administrative Assistant for SRTA bus service in New Bedford.

Our Mother loved being a homemaker, loved interior decorating and was a skilled and avid Gardner as evident to everyone who was invited into her home. She and her late husband enjoyed spending summers with her son Michael and his partner Neil in Nova Scotia where she participated in the daily operations of their historic Inn. Being the social person she was, she developed long and meaningful relationships in Nova Scotia and her visits became an annual highlight for the both of them.

She is survived by her loving son Michael (Neil Hisgen) of Yarmouth Nova Scotia, her daughters Christine Blais (Dean) of Fairhaven and Karen Tavares of New Bedford, sister Cheryl Mathews (Rick) of Lakeville, brothers John Lawrence (Sharan) of Westport and Steve Lawrence of Nantucket and her grandchildren Allison Barboza (Mel) of New Bedford, Hunter Blais (Grace Ostiguy) of New Bedford and Ocean Blais of Fairhaven.
