A U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran, faithful husband and father of five, Richard G. “Dick” Souza, passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lorraine and two daughters: Debra of Arizona, Heidi of Swansea and a son, Tomas. He is reunited in heaven with his son Michael and daughter Laurie.He was predeceased by brothers William Souza, Raymond Souza and Donald Souza and his sister Dorothy Rogers and survived by his brother, Roger Souza of Bedford.

Born in New Bedford to the late Jules Souza and late Georgiana Harrop, predeceased step-father, Thomas "Pee Wee" Harrop.

After attending Fairhaven High School he then entered the US Navy and served in the Korean War on the USS Randall. He completed his service in January of 1956.

He met Lorraine and the two became known for their love of dancing and for each other. They wed on October 6, 1956 and shared 63 years together.

Mr. Souza worked dutifully his entire life before retiring from Morse Cutting Tools. He was then the owner and operator of the Mattapoisett Saw Mill in Mattapoisett. Following that he spent several years working for the

Fairhaven School Department. Mr. Souza was a member of numerous organizations including being a lifetime member of the DAV as well as the St. Theresa Senior Club.

He was well known and loved by so many for his willingness to help others and his sense of humor and his smile.

He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Ashley, Zack Cameron, Josephine, Kelton and Camille whom he loved dearly.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home with a service to take place during this time. Burial will be private.
