New Bedford – Maria do Carmo Lima, age 94, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Carlos Lima.
Maria was born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores to the late Antonio and Maria L. (Lourenco) de Melo. She worked as a stitcher for Mickey Madan Handbags for many years until her retirement. Maria was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Holy Ghost and Holy Rosary Society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She is survived by her 4 children: John Lima of Dartmouth, Carlos Lima of New Bedford, Duarte Lima of Fairhaven, and Patricia Furtado of Dartmouth; 1 brother: Manuel de Melo of St. Michael;as well as 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Antonio de Melo, Joao de Melo, Jose de Melo, Idalina Ferreira and Maria Jose Ramos.
Marias’ visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 8th from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. and followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M.. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
