Fairhaven – Maria Odilia (Martins) DoCouto, age 96, of Fairhaven passed away at on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Our Lady’s Haven. She was the beloved wife of the late Gil Cabral DoCouto.
Odilia was born in Livramento, Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores to the late Joao Tavares Moniz and Maria do Carmo (Martins) and immigrated to the United States in September 1969.
Odilia was a devoted homemaker to her family, as well as, many children she babysat over the years. She will always be remembered for her greatest passion, her Faith in God, watching her Mass’ and the countless rosaries she would pray daily for everyone she loved.
She is survived by her children, Gil M. Cabral and his companion Genie of Dartmouth and Adriano M. Cabral and his wife Anna of New Bedford; grandchildren, Louis, Mercedes, Gilda, Edward, Chad and Christine; 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the mother of the late Manuel C. DoCouto and mother-in-law of the late Maria Isabel Couto. Grandmother of the late Tara A. Cabral. Odilia was predeceased by 2 siblings, Jose and Eugenia.
At this time, the family would like to extend the most sincerest gratitude to the staff at Our Lady’s Haven for all the love, care and dedication given these last 2 years of her life. A special thank you to Kindred Hospice for all the support while she transitioned into Eternal Life.
Odilia’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening, August 15th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
