Bradford J Simmons, 73 of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on May 27, 2019.
Brad was born to parents John and Louise (Pitts) Simmons, on January 20, 1946, in New Bedford Massachusetts. Brad graduated from New Bedford High School and shortly thereafter joined the United States Air Force (1963-1969). After leaving the Air Force, Brad went through the Police Academy and became a New Bedford Police Officer in 1972, where he proudly served the City of New Bedford for 32 years. After his distinguished career in Law Enforcement he retired to Florida where he pursued and obtained his Captain’s license and became a Cruise Ship Captain. He later returned to New Bedford where he resided, surrounded by friends and family until his untimely passing.
Brad married Pamela Suzanne Malone in 1966, who predeceased him. Brad is survived by his son Bradford J Simmons II and his wife Janet of Dartmouth, his daughter Michelle-Rene Soares and her husband Todd of New Bedford, his son Blake C Simmons and his fiancé Deb Greenstein of Plymouth from his second marriage, as well as his three grandchildren Paige Nicole Simmons-Costa, Luke John Simmons, Averi Pamela Soares, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Brad was predeceased by his parents John Peter Simmons and Louise Millicent (Pitts) Araujo, and daughter Britney Amanda Simmons of Acushnet.
Brad had a passion for painting, anything to do with the ocean, and his beloved hometown Boston sports teams. He was also an avid music lover who for a time, enjoyed playing guitar as well as being a collector of music from the 50’s and 60’s. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his love of family.
The memorial service will be held on June 18, 2019, from 5pm to 8pm at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street New Bedford, Mass 02740. The family respectfully requests that people make donations to Rise Up For Homes http://www.riseupforhomes.com/donate, in lieu of sending flowers.
