Maria Pereira

New Bedford, MA. Maria Pereira, passed away December 31, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel Pereira. Mrs. Pereira was the mother of Jose Pereira and his wife Gilda of South Dartmouth MA., Luiza Lopes, Maria Olinda Larguino and her husband Alfred, and Anna Caldas and her husband John, all of New Bedford. She was the mother of the late Mariano, Joao, Manuel, and August Pereira, and Maria Jose Matias. She was the sister of the late Francelina Resendes, and Serafim Resendes. She was survived by 31 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Pereira was born in New Bedford and moved to St. Michael, Azores. She moved back to this area in 1956. She is the daughter of Antonio Cabral Resendes and Maria Isabel (Costa) Resendes. She was a stitcher at various dress factories.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday January 4, 2006 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 7 to 9 P.M., on Tuesday January 3, 2006 at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St.
