Dolores Tavares Souza Jacques, also known as Delly, died peacefully in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts at the age of 74. She died after a long illness. Dolores is survived by her children, Joseph, Denise, Dolores, and Bernice; grandchildren, Aaron, Joseph IV, Paul Jr., Natasha, Marissa, Corey, and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Tyson and Isaac; inlaws, Regina Aguial, Louie Luis, and Alice Tavares. She is preceded in death by father, Frank T. Souza; mother, Custodia C. Pina; husband, Joseph A. Jacques; sisters, Mary Rupkist, Madline Pieres; brothers, Fernandse Tavares, Frank Tavares, Victor Tavares, Billy Tavares; sister in laws, Jeanette Caya, Francis Luis; brother in law, Morris Jacques; and best friend, Dianne M. Lopes, Wayne Richardson, Lucille Richardson.

Dolores was born on July 20th, 1944 in New Bedford Massachusetts to Frank Souza and Custodia Pina. She married Joseph Arthur Jacques in 1962. Dolores worked at Cliftex, Aerovox, and AFC. The couple welcomed 4 children into their home. Her children remember her as beautiful, caring, best friend, and a loving mother who always strived for them to pursue their goals. Over the years, she had 7 grandchildren come into her life. The grandchildren became her everything. Before her death, she was blessed to meet 2 great children; nurturing and loving each of her family members.

Dolores was accomplished at taking care of her many loved ones and often loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated and strong individual who loved to have family time and was passionate about making puzzles, doing card games, and having quality family time.

Dolores’s visiting hours will be held Monday from 5-8 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Tuesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairhaven at 10 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Sacred Heart Ceremony. Dolores will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dolores’s life. Donations are appreciated and will be accepted to Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
