Maria Dolores (Medeiros) Almeida

Fairhaven – Maria Dolores (Medeiros) Almeida, age 85, of New Bedford passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home.

Dolores was the widow of Manuel Jose Vicente Almeida and daughter of the late Francisco Garcia Medeiros and Jovita Pavao Farias.

Born in Mosteiros, S. Miguel, Acores, she resided in New Bedford since 1966 and worked many years as a stitcher in the garment industry.

Her family includes her 4 daughters, Lucia Soares and her husband, Jose, Dalila Laberge and her husband, Mark, Hilda Magalhaes and her husband, Fred and the late Maria Fatima Almeida; her late brother, Luis Medeiros and sister Conceicao Simoes; 6 grandchildren, Miguel Soares and Jennifer Soares-Brum, Russell and Daniel Hallett and Kevin and Ryan Magalhaes that she adored and helped raise; great-grandchildren, Travis and Blake Hallett, Adrian, Gavin and Emerson Brum, Harper and Hadlee Soares, Quinn and Klay Hallett and Raegan Magalhaes to whom she was lovingly known as vavo; also dear nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Our Lady’s Haven and Kindred Hospice for their excellent care.

Her funeral services will be held Monday morning, February 25th with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Everyone attending is kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
