New Bedford – Donald Mello, age 83, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at his daughter’s home in New Hampshire. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley (Dias) Mello.
Donald was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Frank and Mary (Lucas) Mello. He worked as a machine operator at Morse Twist Drill and later owned his own carpentry business called JACE Home Improvement. Donald was also in the Naval Reserves and had been a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Monica Deneault and her husband, Damian of Hudson, NH and Donald J. Mello of New Bedford; 6 grandchildren, Alyssa Deneault, Jennifer Savary, Nicholas Deneault, Carolyn Deneault, Christopher Mello and Elizabeth Mello; 3 great-grandchildren, Aria Savary, Sydnie Bradfield and Jaxon Bradfield; sister, Carol Groves of Tiverton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Donald’s visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will be Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
