Maria C. Botelho

New Bedford – Maria C. (de Medeiros) Botelho, age 83, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Botelho and the daughter of the late Guilherme Augusto and Gilda (Palheiro) de Medeiros.

Maria was born in Santa Clara, St. Michael, Azores and had worked as both an assembler for Columbia Electronics and as a baker. Maria was a remarkable woman who took loving care of her husband, Jose, during his illness for 18 years.

She is survived by her 3 children, Antonio Botelho and his wife, Alda of Dartmouth, Jose Botelho and his wife, Rose of New Bedford and Maria Furtado and her husband, Jose; 6 grandchildren, Bobby Dos Santos, Janice Pine, Derek Botelho, Elisabeth Botelho, Michael Botelho and Stephanie Furtado; 3 great-grandchildren, Cameryn Medeiros, Brian Medeiros Jr. and Harrison Pine; siblings, Henrique de Medeiros, Fatima Almeida, Maria Terra, Evangelina Soares and Diamantina Costa; as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren. Maria was also predeceased by her siblings, Cidalia Costa, Guilherme de Medeiros and Gilda Leandres.

Maria’s visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
