New Bedford– Antone Oliver, 85, of New Bedford died Saturday evening, October 27, 2018 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Eugenia P. (Perry) Oliver.
Antone was born in New Bedford, the son of Manuel and Celina (Sousa) Oliver. He resided in New Bedford his whole life before moving to South Dartmouth last year. Antone was a Chef at St. Luke’s Hospital for 40 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. James Church of New Bedford. Antone proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
During his younger years, he was a well-known soccer player for the Santo Cristo Club. Following his playing days, he became a little league soccer coach during the mid to late 1950’s. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 914 of New Bedford for many years.
His family includes, 2 sons, Michael A. Oliver of New Bedford and Kenneth J. Oliver of West Wareham; 3 daughters, Susan M. Brasells and her husband, David of Dartmouth, Ann Marie Soucy and her husband, Normand of Fairhaven and Wendy Oliver of Fairhaven; 3 grandchildren, Brittany Brasells, Garrett Soucy and Makenna Oliver-DeCosta; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Virginia Gomes and Ellen Santos, both of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Mary Bettencourt, Joseph and Manuel Oliver.
Antone’s visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will be held Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe of St. James Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be private.
