Leonisa (Proenca) Santos

New Bedford – Leonisa (Proenca) Santos, age 89, of New Bedford passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Santos and the daughter of the late Augusto and Esperanca (das Dores) Proenca.

Leonisa was born in Lagos, Portugal and moved to New Bedford in 1959 where she worked as a machine operator for several companies in the area. She loved to sew and was a very creative and talented woman.

She is survived by her brother, Augusto Proenca; sister, Isabel Proenca Girao; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Leonisa’s visiting hours will be Thursday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
