Palmira Bettencourt

New Bedford – Palmira Bettencourt, age 90, passed away on June 29, 2018 at Royal Taber Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Valdemar Goncalves Bettencourt and the daughter of the late Manuel Roberto and Julia de Lourdes (Azevedo) da Silveira.

Palmira was born in St. George, Azores and moved to this area in 1967. She had worked as a stitcher for a local dress factory.

She is survived by her children, Jose Antonio Bettencourt and Valdemar F. Bettencourt, both of Las Vegas, NV, Francisco Jose Bettencourt of New Bedford, Maria Joao Pimentel of New Bedford and Miguel Bettencourt of Fall River; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 3 living sisters; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Palmira’s visiting hours will be Monday from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Her funeral will be Tuesday in the funeral home at 10:30 A.M with a service to take place during that time burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
