Maria "Olivia" Freitas

New Bedford – Maria “Olivia” Freitas, 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Germano Machado Freitas. She was born in in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal. Maria immigrated to New Bedford with her Son and Husband. She was a longtime employee of the former Frionor Fisheries. She loved cooking and hosting parties for her family and many friends.

She is survived by her son, Augusto “Eddy” Freitas; his Daughters, Karissa and Vanessa Freitas; her Brothers Valdemiro Cardoso and Norberto Cardoso; her Daughters from North Carolina Teresa Vargas and Patty Robertson; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Maria’s funeral service will be held on Friday morning, beginning with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow at St. Johns Cemetery on Allen St. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church.
