New Bedford MA.-Manuel Gouveia died Sunday October 16, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital New Bedford MA. He was the husband of Olive (Joseph) Gouveia of New Bedford. Survivors include a son David Gouveia and his companion Joan Schubert of New Bedford, a daughter Beverly Pereira of East Freetown. He was the father of the late Frank and Robert Vaughan, He was the brother of Deolinda Francis of New Bedford, and Hilda Alves of Acushnet, and Mark Gonsalves of CT., and the late Mary Lewis. He was also survived by 9 Grandchildren and several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gouveia was born in New Bedford the son of the late Domingos Gonsalves and Ludovina J. (Rodrigues) Gouveia. He was employed at Coaters Inc., as a mixer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member and officer of the Club Madeirense SS Sacramento Inc. He was also a part-time bartender at the Pilot House Tavern.
His funeral will be October 19, 2005, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9 A.M. with a Funeral Mass at A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, on County St. New Bedford, MA. at 10 A.M. Visiting hours will be Tuesday October 18 , 2005 from 5-8 P.M. Burial will be at Rural Cemetery.
