Richard Souza

New Bedford - Richard Souza, aged 79 years - died Thursday, October 6, 2005, at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford, Ma. Mr. Souza was the husband of the late Lucille C. (Rapoza) Souza. Survivors include his 2 daughters: Carol Souza of New Bedford and Janice Thurston, wife of Gerald Thurston of Portsmouth, R.I. , 2 sisters: Stella Pires of S. Dartmouth and Edna Soares of Somerset. He was also the brother of the late Umbert Souza.

Mr. Souza was born in New Bedford, Ma, the son of the late “Oleda” Hirondina (Cadema) and Manuel Souza. He was formerly employed at Cornell Dubilier as a foreman. Mr. Souza was an avid recreational fisherman, was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, was a former member of the Washington Club, Post 166 American Legion of Fairhaven, and he was a member of the Dartmouth Seniors Widow Program.

His funeral will be Tuesday, October 11, 2005, from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 10:15 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, on County St., New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours will be Monday, October 10, 2005 from 5- 7 P.M. Burial will be at Rural Cemetery.
