Joao Lopes

New Bedford – Joao Lopes, age 96 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at home with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Vieira) Lopes and the son of the late Justina (Lopes) and Julio Lopes. He was born in Brava Cape Verde Islands.

He is survived by his wife Maria; his children, Elisa Depina, Ana Maria Lopes, Jose Lopes, Adriano Lopes, Carlos Lopes, Antonio and Gastao Lopes; brother, Jose Lopes; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

His visiting hours will be held Sunday evening from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Monday, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:00A.M. Burial will immediately follow at Rural Cemetery.
