Sophie Gomes

Fairhaven – Sophie Gomes, age 100 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Our Lady’s Haven of Fairhaven. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Gomes. Sophie was the daughter of the late Rose (Morris) and Manuel Rapoza.

She was born in New Bedford and lived here all of her life. She worked as a Spooler Tender at Berkshire Hathaway.

She is survived by her son, Donald J. Gomes and his wife, Cathy of Fairhaven; a daughter, Beverly Ann Gomes of New Bedford; one grandson, Matthew W. Gomes and his wife, Erin of Fairhaven; two great-granddaughters, Addison Gomes and Hayden Gomes; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Frank Rapoza and the late Mary J. Mello.

Her funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
