Manuel Gomes

Dartmouth – Manuel “Manny” Gomes, age 94 years, passed away on Saturday, April 29th at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the beloved husband of Lucy (Carvalho) Gomes. Mr. Gomes was the loving father of 3 children: Michael Gomes, husband of Ester of Dartmouth, Gary Gomes, husband of Ann Marie of Dartmouth and Diane Pearson, wife of Daniel, of Yankeetown, Fla. He is survived by 5 grandchildren: Michael, Jocelyn, Lauren and Eric Gomes and Elizabeth Hourani; as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

Mr. Gomes was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Maria (Augusta) and Francisco Gomes. He was the owner of Gomes Ice and Oil Company and worked for many years at Alden Corrugated Corporation. He also was employed at the Standard Times for more than 30 years. Mr. Gomes was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, serving in The 75th Infantry Division. He was awarded The Bronze Star for his service at The Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Gomes' funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. with a service to begin at 11:00 A.M. at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 - 7 P.M.
