Joseph E. Benevides

NEW BEDFORD – Joseph E. Benevides, age 82, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Leone D. (Souza) Benevides and the son of the late John C. and Emma (Neves) Benevides.

A lifelong resident of this area, Joseph was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School Class of 1952. He worked in Public Relations for Com Electric Co. for many years until his retirement.

Mr. Benevides proudly served our country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by 4 children: Joseph T. Benevides and his wife, Karen; James E. Benevides and his wife, Anne; Paul D. Benevides and his wife, Pamela, all of New Bedford; and Thomas V. Benevides and his wife Bonnie of Acushnet; as well as, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew.

Mr. Benevides was predeceased by his siblings: Leonard Benevides and John Benevides.

His funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements were placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
