Manuel De Almeida

New Bedford – Manuel De Almeida, age 95, passed away on Friday March 3, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Angelina (Matos) De Almeida and the son of the late Maria dos Santos (Vieira) and Manuel Almeida.

Mr. De Almeida was born in Agua de Pau, St. Michael, Azores and moved to this country in 1979 where he worked as a janitor for UMass Dartmouth University. He also worked at Cornell Dubilier and Knapp Shoes.

He is survived by his children: Maria dos Anjos Almeida wife of Manuel, of New Bedford, MA, Carlos Almeida husband of Josefina, of New Bedford, MA, Jose T. Almeida husband of Connie, of New Bedford, MA and Maria A. Baptista wife of Tobias, of Dartmouth, MA; 9 grandchildren: Gary Almeida, Timothy Almeida, Jennifer Alexandre, Brian Almeida, Bobby Almeida, Kelly Almeida, Andrea DeMelo, Jessica Brizida and Shawn Baptista; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed spending time attending and participating in Mass, watching the Portuguese marching bands and wrestling.

His funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
