Maria Dos Anjos Medeiros

New Bedford–Maria dos Anjos (Matos) Medeiros, age 81, passed away on Monday December 12, 2016 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the wife of the late Gilberto Medeiros and daughter of the late Maria J. (Moniz) and Manuel J. Matos

Born in Agua de Pau, St Michael, Azores, she immigrated to this country in 1960 where she spent the rest of her life. She worked as a stitcher at local factories, retiring from Cape Cod Sportswear. Maria was a very outgoing person who enjoyed playing cards, going to Foxwoods, traveling and especially loved to go on cruises.

Her surviving family includes her 2 daughters: Teresa Casimiro and her husband Leo and Debra Andre and her husband Rick as well as 3 grandchildren: Kellianne, Bryan and Ricky; her siblings Artur Matos and his wife Leonor; Inez Achadinha and her husband Jorge; Agostinha Lima and her husband Manuel. She is also survived by her 2 godsons: Robert and Paul Matos as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late George Medeiros and sister of the late Jose C. Matos and his late wife Isolina.

Mrs Medeiros funeral will be on Thursday, December 15, 2016 beginning at 8:00 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will take place at St John Cemetery in New Bedford. Visiting Hours will take place on Wednesday from 5-8 P.M.
