Maria I. Couto

New Bedford – Maria I Couto, age 82, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Bedford Gardens Care and Rehab Center. She was the loving wife of the late Evaristo S. Couto and the daughter of the late Manuel deMedeiros and Maria da Conceicao (Laurence) Lima.

Mrs. Couto was born in St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 1970 and worked for many years for the Cliftex Corporation until her retirement.
She is survived by her two sons: Manuel Lima Couto and Eddie Duarte Couto, both of New Bedford; as well as a sister, Maria Conceicao Pavao of St. Michael.

Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, Ma 02740.
