Jose Matos Madeira

New Bedford – Jose Matos Madeira, age 95 of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Maria Amelia (Pereira) Madeira and the son of the late Sarafim and Amelia (Miguel) Madeira.

Mr. Madeira was born in St. Michael, Azores and, after moving to this country in 1979, worked as a floor worker for Knapp Shoes for many years until his retirement.

His family includes 5 children: Maria A. Carreiro, Maria F. Almeida, Victoria P. Madeira, Joao C. Madeira and Berta P. Soares all of New Bedford; 3 siblings: Maria J. Almeida, Maria Carmo dos Reis and Antonio Madeira all of New Bedford; as well as 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Jose M. Madeira and the brother of the late Manuel Madeira, Dinis Madeira, Sarafim Madeira and Amelia Almeida.

His funeral will be Friday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M.
