Irene Sylvia

New Bedford – Irene Sylvia, age 78 of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Hathaway Manor. She was the loving wife of the late Donald V. Sylvia Sr., and the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Simone (Casavant) Rezendes.

Born in Fairhaven, she lived in this area all of her life. Irene worked as a school cafeteria worker for the City of New Bedford for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include her son: Donald V. Sylvia Jr. of New Bedford; 2 step daughters:Michelle Sylvia of New Bedford and Karen Satiropoulos of Harvard,MA and 1 sister: Mary Ann Toussaint of Fairhaven. She was also survived by 6 grandchildren, several great- grandchildren, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.She was predeceased by her brother Daniel Rezendes.

Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Her funeral will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. with a service to begin at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
