On September 24, 2016, Alice DeOliveira of Dartmouth, affectionately known as Zita, has been called to heaven after a beautiful life of 102 years. She was surrounded by her loving family who were there by her side.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her tender smile and caring ways made her the amazing women that she was. Alice was the daughter of Francisco and Maria Carolina DaSilva and the widow of the late Eduino DeOliveira.

Alice was born in Praia do Almoxarife, Faial, Azores. She immigrated to the United States in 1960 with her husband and two daughters and resided in New Bedford for 30 years before moving to Dartmouth with her daughter and son-in-law. One of Alice’s greatest accomplishments was becoming a United States Citizen. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was a homemaker and cared for children for many years. She loved spending time with her family especially her great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life.

She was survived by her two daughters, Fatima Horta and her husband Thomas of Dartmouth; Marilia Pires and her husband Manuel of Faial; her grandsons, Bob Horta, Chris Horta and his wife Michelle, Filipe and John Pires; her beloved great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jared Duarte, Cameron and Avery Horta. She was the sister of the late Conceicao Oliveira and Maria Albertina Terra. She was also the loving grandmother of the late Tammy Horta-Duarte. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Her funeral will be held Thursday beginning at the funeral home at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
