John G. Mello, Jr.

Dartmouth Ma - John G (Johnny) Mello Jr. passed away peacefully on September 7th at home with his sons by his side , he was 87 years old.
He was the only child of the late John G Mello Sr. and Mary B Mello of New Bedford.

John was a truck driver for the city of New Bedford for many years until his retirement.

He is survived by Vivian, his beloved wife of 65 years. He lovingly cared for and doted on Vivian his entire life. John and Viv share an eternal love that few experience or witness in a lifetime. He is also survived by his loving sons, John G (Jackie) Mello III, and Randall F (Randy) Mello and his partner Nancy Mahoney, who John loved as his daughter, all are from Dartmouth. John was a proud Dad to his sons and has gifted them with his sharp wit and sense of humor.

John is also survived by his grandchildren, Meghan Mello of Seattle WA, Riley Mello of New Bedford and Sadie Mello of Dartmouth. He played an important role in their upbringing, His grandchildren were “the apples of his eyes” and he is an important part of who they are today.
Several nieces and nephews.

Johnny enjoyed his mornings with friends at The Dogg Mill and his daily banter with the guys at Neighborhood Auto. He enjoyed his unofficial title of “The Mayor of Geraldine St” and he was always up for a game of 8 ball with any challenger.

His sharp wit, wise cracks and infectious smile will be missed.
