Joan Nancy Mitchell

Providence , RI – Joan Nancy Mitchell, age 71 of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the loving wife of Thomas P. Mitchell and the daughter of the late Frank Gorczyca and Katherine (Dzuba) Gorczyca. Born in New Bedford She was a graduate of New Bedford High School Class of 1962 and was the Assistant Tax Collector for 29 years for The Town of Dartmouth until her retirement.
She is survived by her 2 children: Angela Alexiades and her husband, Ted, of Kingston, MA and Ryan T. Mitchell and his wife, Rochelle, of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Abigail Alexiades, Conor Mitchell, Jake Mitchell and Colton Mitchell; sister: Frances Loureiro and her husband Daniel of Falmouth; as well as 1 niece and 1 nephew.
Her funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Martyr Church at 10:00 A.M. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be held Monday in the funeral home from 4-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations in Joan’s name may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 6931 Arlington Road 2nd floor Bethesda, MD 20814.Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
