Edna Mae (Arruda) Cunha

NEW BEDFORD - Edna Mae ( Arruda) Cunha, 96, of Fairhaven, passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at The Hathaway Manor Nursing Facility, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 2, 1920, in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Virginia (Marshall) Arruda.

Mrs. Cunha lived most of her life in New Bedford and worked at City Hall until her retirement. She was a communicant of the former St. John the Baptist Church. Her family was her joy.

Survivors include her two daughters: Nancy Hughes and her husband Alan of New Bedford; Pauline Graviel and her husband John of Fairhaven; a sister, Mildred (Arruda) Rego, of Florida; three grandchildren: Michael Hughes and his wife Jennifer of Dartmouth; Brian Hughes and his wife Victoria of Virginia; and Jayne Graviel of Carver; eight great-grandchildren: Jackson, Ryan, Christopher, Jillian, Grace, Katherine, Adam and Peter Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph "Jimmy" Arruda and her husband Fred M.Cunha.
