New Bedford – Emilia Silveira, age 93 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Jose Fraga Silveira and the daughter of the late Jose Jacinto and Maria (Balbina) Alves.
Born in Cedros, Flores, Azores, Mrs. Silveira moved to this area 40 years ago and worked for Dartmouth Clothing for many years until her retirement.
Her family includes 8 children: Jose Manuel DaSilveira and his wife, Maria Salome, Leonel Silveira and his wife, Maria Albertina, all of New Bedford, Gustavo Silveira and his wife, Diamantina of Flores, Azores, Maria Fatima Figueiredo and her husband, Antonio of Cambridge, Ontario, Aida Sousa and her husband, Emmanuel of Dartmouth, Jose Raul Silveira and his wife, Lurdes of New Bedford, the late Maria Gorete Rego and her widower, Paul Rego of Dartmouth and the late Jose Abel Silveira; deceased siblings: Jose Alves, Fernando Alves Maria Lurdes Alves and Regina Sousa; as well as 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
