Joseph Costa Sr.

New Bedford – Joseph Costa, passed into eternal rest and into the arms of his true love Leonora, on May 18, 2016, they had been married for 63 years prior to her passing. He was the loving father of Janice Dexter, Joanne Mello, Nancy Costa, Joseph Costa Jr., James Costa and Susan Costa. Devoted grandfather of Shad Samagaio, Dax Costa, Jason Ferro, Amanda Browning, Peter Mello, Brooke Costa, Tori Ponte, Jordan Costa, James Costa, Marilyn Costa, Mason Costa and Camden Moniz. He will also be sadly missed by his 9 great grandchildren.

Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Harpoon Harmonizers, he was also a loyal fan of Boston Sports Teams. He was formerly employed br Berkshire Hathaway, Morse twist Drill and UMass Dartmouth retiring in 1995.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff in the ICU and Crapo wards at St. Luke’s Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care. We would also like to thank his caregivers Karen Camille and Janice Tripp. Because of their kind and loving care, we were able to make his wish to remain in his home until his final days come true.

Visiting hours with his ashes present will take place on Tuesday May 31 from 6-8 P.M. His funeral will be Wednesday at the Funeral Home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. . Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
