Antonio J. Matias

New Bedford – Antonio J. Matias, age 75 of Dartmouth, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Maria L. (Dias) Matias and the son of the late Maria Rosa (Jacinto) and Luis Dos Santos Matias.

Born in Lavos, Figueira Da Foz, Portugal, Mr. Matias moved to this country in 1980 and worked as a commercial fisherman until his retirement.

He is survived by 2 children: Kenneth D. Matias and his wife Sarah of Oakham, MA and Monica Matias of New Bedford; Grandson: Greyson Matias; sister: Isaura Figueiredo as well as 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

His funeral will be Tuesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
