Porfirio Jose Caneira

New Bedford- Porfirio Jose Caneira, aged 74 years, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at St Luke’s Hospital. He was the Husband of Emerenciana deJesus (Vieira) Caneira of New Bedford. Mr. Caneira was the father of Antonio Caneira of New Bedford, Ma.; Porfirio Caneira of New Bedford, Ma.; Celeste DaSilva of Canada; Manuel Caneira of New Bedford, Ma. and Victor Caneira of Dartmouth Ma. Mr. Caneira was the brother of Antonio Caneira of Newark, New Jersey; Ana Caneira of Newark, New Jersey and Eulalia Horta of Murtosa, Portugal. Mr. Caneira also had nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Caneira was formerly a Co-Owner of the fishing vessel Sunshine with his son Antonio.

Mr.Caneira was born in Murtosa, Portugal and has lived in this area since 1966. He was the son of the late Porfirio Jose and Maria daRosa (Rebimvas) Caneira. Mr. Caneira was a member of the United Fisherman’s Club and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday July 8, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 P.M. on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Perry Funeral Home.
