Maria R. Souza

Dartmouth – Maria R. Souza, age 85 of New Bedford, passed away on Friday April 1, 2016 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest M. “Sonny” Souza and the daughter of the late Maria (Miranda) and Eduardo Rodrigues.
Born in New Bedford, Ma she worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Mark G. Rosenthal and also worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Admitting until her retirement. She will always be remembered for all the Afghans she crocheted and donated to various nursing homes in the city.
Her family includes a daughter, Cheryl M. Souza and her husband Richard C. Santos, a grandson Jonathan S. Santos as well as several nieces, nephews, godchildren and her good friend Aida Amaral. Maria was the sister of the late Louis, Eduardo, Aurelio, Alvaro and Carlos Rodrigues, Florinda Azeredo and Marianna Boudreau.
Her funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday evening from 5-8 P.M. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at 2 south Brandon Woods of Dartmouth for the loving care they showed to mom.
