Joseph Mello, Jr.

New Bedford – Joseph Mello, Jr. age 87, passed away on Saturday March 12, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Frates) Mello and the son of the late Joseph Mello, Sr and Clara (Couto) Mello.

Mr. Mello was a lifelong resident of this area and worked for the City of New Bedford as a Municipal Truck Driver for several years until his retirement.

He is survived by; a son, Ronald Mello and his wife Margarida, of Dartmouth; 5 grandchildren: Christopher Mello, Jennie Mello, Patricia Mendonca, Monique Hines and Jarrod Hines; 5 great grandchildren, Danny, Michael, Sofia, Riley and Matthew as well as a brother, William Mello of Westport.

He is predeceased by 8 siblings.

Burial of he and wife’s cremated remains will take place at a later date. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
